          • Indications:
            • Lip tie: A tight labial frenulum can restrict lip movement and interfere with breastfeeding or speaking.
            • Gummy smile: A prominent frenulum can cause a gummy smile when the person smiles.
            • Orthodontic treatment: A frenectomy may be necessary to improve the alignment of teeth and prevent the frenulum from pulling on the teeth during orthodontic treatment.
          • Lingual Frenectomy: A lingual frenectomy is a surgical procedure to release the lingual frenulum, the tissue connecting the underside of the tongue to the floor of the mouth, when it is too short or thick, a condition known as “tongue-tie”. This procedure improves tongue movement, which can enhance functions like speaking, eating, swallowing, and breastfeeding.
            • It helps with essential daily activities, including:
                • Feeding: Especially important for infants to improve breastfeeding.
                • Speech: Can address issues with pronunciation, particularly for certain consonants.
                • Eating and Swallowing: Facilitates proper tongue movement for these functions.
        • Gingivectomies: A gingivectomy is the surgical removal of excess gum tissue from around the teeth.  Some reasons why this procedure may be needed are:
          • Orthodontic treatment: removing gum tissue may be necessary before the orthodontic treatment prior to placing brackets or after orthodontic treatment to lengthen the appearance of teeth.
          • Improve gum health and reduce inflammation
          • Reduce gum pockets (spaces between the teeth and gums)
          • Correct a gummy smile
          • Treat gum disease (periodontal disease)
